Beckenridge Pale Ale

Look: Honey color with light foamy head

Taste: skunky initial, followed by a hoppy bite

Conclusion: This beer was strange. It starts off kind of skunky and yeasty, but hits you with a sharp hoppy bite. It washes clean and leaves a really flavorful after taste to savor. The beer paired well with my fish and chips, as the vinegar complimented the hoppy bite. The floral aftertaste was a welcome taste that off set the strong vinegar taste of the fish.

On its own, I don’t know that I can have too many of these beers, but accompanied by food, this beer was really nice… once you get past the first few skunky drinks.

I give this a 5 out of 10

Waimea Bay Pale Ale

Look: Dark golden brown, slight foamy white head

Taste: sharp, but sweet with smokey after taste

Conc: This beer was given to me by a co-worker. She didn’t know what to do with it as she does not drink pale ales. She donated it to 10-51, and I humbly accepted.

This beer is proudly brewed in Kauai, Hawaii. If you’re in the area, or planning a vacation, check them out. Its my first Hawaiian beer, and I’m tempted to see what else they have to offer.

This beer is a really good refreshing BBQ beer. It has a slight sweet aroma when poured into a glass, and the slight sweetness transfers over into the drink. On first taste, the beer is not too sharp, but has an initial kick. The hops and barley flavor come through nicely with a layered effect. You get sweet tones initially, then a nice pale kick, but it washes down with a crisp, clean finish. Them islanders sure know how to brew a good summer time brew!

I give it 7 out of 10

St Sebastian, Golden

Look: Piss color with a golden head

Taste: Fruit flavors without the sweetness and a slightly dry finish

Conclusion: Okay the main reason I bought this brew was the sweet little resealable ceramic jug it came in. That was worth the purchase alone. That said I was really disappointed with the brew itself. Why you ask? It tasted EXACTLY like the first batch of beer I every made.

It is a decent and crisp Belgian drink that is light but has a vinegar tasting aftertaste. I noticed this about the first couple of my home brews and didn't care for it. Hell I shouldn't have to taste the same thing from a brew that has probably had a few more runs through the old fermenting tank! Not very desirable and ultimately disappointing was this beer.

Brewbakers, Surf City Beer

Look: Cloudy golden color with a slight golden head

Taste: Barley flavor with a slight sharp bite

Conclusion: The Brewbaker's site actually has it's beers side by side with what they are supposedly comparable to in the better known beer world. This one is supposed to be Sierra Nevada Pale Ale's twin. It's has a very cloudy body like a Hef but come through with the pale ale bite and with a light barley flavoring that is just so refreshing.

This was actually a great little ale with hints of yeast and barley but stays a nice drink throughout. Well balanced and crisp like a good pale ale should be. And although it's made in Surf City(Huntington Beach), also known lovingly as Shitwater Beach, I give it a thumbs up. Huntington Beach is a beautiful city, don't get me wrong but the water is crap...and I'm being literal! There may be hope for the city yet. A great little obscure pale ale.

Blond Frog Ale (Pale Ale)

Look: Golden blond with a foamy white head

Taste: Lots of barley flavor, with an initial sharp blast of hops. Has a very nice dry after taste.

Conclusion: This is a good blond beer. It has more flavor than most, but still tastes a little too much like Buttwiper for my taste. The dry after taste brings your lips back to the glass for another drink hoping to wet your whistle, but you always end up with the dry after taste. The bottle describes this ale as a Pale Ale, and it very well could pass for one.
This blond, like most, is a tease though! “…this pale ale will give you a run for your money, break your heart, and leave you nothin’ to show for it except a fake phone number on the back of a burnt out match book.” True, so true, I wanted just a little more out of this beer…

I give it 5 brews out of 10

Paradise Pale Ale – Oggi’s

Look: light brown, but darker than gold… some would say a mahogany color.

Taste: Initial hoppy taste with a dry finish. You can definitely taste the malt and hops in the beer, which is a good thing.

Conclusion: Paradise Pale Ale is a simple, strait forward brew. It is pale and its an ale – plane and simple. There is really not much depth to the beer, which is unfortunate. It looked promising, but just did not deliver. After every sip, it left me wanting, but the after taste just never came. After the initial burst of flavor dissipated, you felt and tasted nothing…
