Look: Mahogany with chocolate brown head
Taste: Malt with sweet carbonated malt finish
Conclusion: Karl Strauss is a rather large and storied brewery in San Diego, CA. My wife and I stopped by their restaurant at the Universal City Walk in Los Angeles and this was my first crossing with the Red Trolley. It's obviously a red ale but has a considerate amount of character for something from one of the larger breweries.
Fortunately this beer survived the large scale operation that Karl Strauss has become. It's medium bodied but has a decent amount of sediment floating as you drink it. Mmmm...I love more beers that don't filter out all the good stuff, it lets you know your beer has some nuts on it. Well, that's probably the wrong verbage to use for a beer. Ah well. This brew comes with some medium bodied sweet malts that are quite crisp. There's a zippy finish that lets you know how much carbonation is in there. A good amount but not soda pop strong. Quite the solid offering from Karl Strauss.
