Duchesse De Bourgogne

Look: Deep blackish brown with a foam tan head

Taste: Sour smell and taste with spices and oak

Conclusion: This is a sour beer. I knew it was sour before I was going to taste it but it still caught me off guard and twisted my face. Apparently sour beers are brewed without yeast which gives the almost vinegar taste. I've brewed sour batches of beer on my own...but the bad kind of sour. This was much better...phwew. I think after the sour punch I kept expecting the taste to go bad. Not so...it's silky smooth after and, actually, damn good!

The smell is strong and tightens up your jaw like your eating a sour candy, but then the flavors come in, mid-taste, and are actually quite delicious. My wife ordered two of these she liked them so much. A really odd and different tasting type of beer but once you get past the fact that it is mouth puckerin' you'll probably be glad you tried it. Have a go, but don't say I didn't warn you! This is one of those little payoffs that comes from trying new and wild brews. An excellent drink...but in it's own way.

7 Brews!
