Peres Trappistes, Chimay Ale Grand Reserve

Look: Hazy Amber, Brown. Head is with light creamy head that dissipates to absolutely no head quickly.

Taste: 9% Alcohol. Aged, mellow, extremely rich flavor that has some sweetness to it. This brew smells very pungent and aromatic.

Conclusion: I'm sure this is where I'm supposed to say how sophisticated this beer is and mention 30 different flavors I tasted. Like anyone I have my preferences and these sweet, fruity Belgium beers are not one of them. The beer really does have an excellent flavor to it, although that and the strong alcohol content combined really didn't do it for me. It almost came off having a Burbon aftertaste. However, to be fair this is a top notch brew and really has a variety of flavors and is amazingly tasty. Hell, for $10 a bottle it better!

This brew is made in an abbey by monks and has been since the 1800s. On the back it states the "majority" of the profits are used for charitable works. So I guess if you don't like it and your out ten clams you can still have the satisfaction of knowing you paid to have the churches lawn mowed.

Rating: 8 Brews!
