Look: Blackness. Head is thick maple color.
Taste: Starts gently sweet then smooths out into a nutty cornucopia of malty goodness. Finishes with a mild molasses aftertaste.
Conclusion: Wow. That was my first thought. Samuel Smith can brew some amazing beers. This certainly is a masterfully crafted stout and one of my very favorites. Every part of the drink is enjoyable and I was really bummed when I could see the bottom of the glass. It has just the right amount of sweetness mixed with a mild, full flavor that was nothing short of spectacular. But don't go thinking Samuel Smith makes strong, brutal beers. All of them have a mild, pleasant drink that goes down oh so smooth.
I don't recommend this drink with anything but itself. It's too good for you to be distracted and not appreciate it's superior assets. A Jessica Rabbit of an imperial stout... and I'll play Patty Cake with it anytime.
